Ayurvedic Practitioners and Yoga Teachers have the unique opportunity to offer various communities insight and empowerment in the realm of healthy and aligned living. The way you choose to engage with people (or not) when you present or lead workshops may be more important than the knowledge you intend to provide.
Together, let’s look at the components of a well-balanced, engaging dynamic so that you can share your appreciation for ancient wisdom in a way that includes others and naturally invites people into your practice!

Matthew Sloane gained experience as a facilitator while at Interaction Associates, a Boston-based training and development company. While 10 years of his career life had been spent as a graphic designer, developing branding and visual presentation strategies, he learned how the people who give and listen to the presentations are more important than the presentations themselves.
After being certified as an Integral Coach by New Ventures West in 2009, Matt has developed and given a variety of trainings and presentations with two goals in mind:

If you like going to presentations where you can sit quietly in the back row and be spoken at, then you won’t like this — this is not a lecture.
Instead, we’ll be exploring different ways of being together, otherwise known as co-creating, and leveraging group wisdom for the sake of synergy.

I had the good fortune of participating in “Engaging Presentations” at the National Ayurvedic Medical Association Conference.
I realized that when I give presentations I am usually focused on myself and the information I want to impart. I now see that while it is important to be prepared, this more self-centered focus can actually be an obstacle to the authentic participation of those in attendance.
Matt provided tools that help foster and support authentic learning, discovery and participation. He also modeled this so simply and beautifully. I look forward to putting what I have learned into practice!

Giving engaging presentations is key to spreading the wisdom of Ayurveda and Matt provided the tools and inspiration to do this effectively. As he taught us about key principles in creating an engaging presentation, he seamlessly wove these very principles into his own presentation.
His use of humor, eye contact and audience engagement fostered synergistic co-creation between presenter and audience. I left feeling that I had been a part of the process rather than just a member of the audience and felt confident in my ability to incorporate these techniques into my own presentations.
